The show must go on

Alrighty, blog number two, and I definitely have some interesting stuff to share.

The music industry club, MEISA, of which I am a member of the executive board, has been planning a very exciting concert for the past few months. The original line-up was to be Call it a Night, Stressbomb, and The Queers (a legendary hardcore band) were going to headline. After Call it a Night cancelled on us, we had to scramble to find a third band, which we did. Crackin’, another local CT hardcore band opened up the show.

This past Monday, the day before the show, MEISA found out that our account had been frozen, leaving us with no money to pay The Queers, who wanted their money immediately after they played their set.

We tried negotiating with their manager, but she basically said, “No money, no show”.  So on Tuesday, the day of the show, I sat up in the Student Activities Office from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, waiting to meet with the Director to see if their was any loophole we could go through to pay this band. After being told that there was really no way around it, we ended up canceling the Queers. . .

The Executive Board was so upset, and stressed out, because we had invited so many people, promising that the Queers would play. I feared a riot would break out when the news was broken, so I had planned to not even go to the show.

4:30 rolls around and I notice our Vice President’s Facebook status had changed to “WE GOT THE QUEERS BACK!!!!!” I called him up and found out that our president was able to pull a few more strings, and was able to get $500 cash to pay The Queers, and the show was back on. It was such a relief, and a weight lifted off my shoulders. And it was great to know that if MEISA is ever in a tight spot like that again, that we can work together and pull out of it to put on a great show.

The show was amazing, and ended up being one of the most attended shows MEISA has had in a while.. So, even though we had to go through hell and back, it ended up being a really good night afterall.

Spring Break is next week, and let me tell you, I will be thoroughly enjoying every minute of it! :o)
