It’s been a crazy week. I had to go pick up my Petition for Graduation, so once that gets signed and approved I am all set to graduate in May. I had my first quiz of the semester this past Wednesday, needless to say, I feel confident that I did well on it. President’s Day is Monday; therefore, there are no classes. Nice, I know. So, I’m heading home for the weekend. Tomorrow is Friday the 13th. I am not going to see the Jason movie. I don’t do horror movies. I hate them. Saturday is Valentine’s Day. For the first time in 3 years I will not be celebrating it with my girlfriend because we are both heading home for the long weekend. Sunday is the Daytona 500, which is another sign that spring is on the way. My pick to win the race is Jeff Gordon; he is also my pick for the Championship this year. Hopefully NASCAR will help me forget about football. But, as promised last week, I will choose the 5 players to watch out for next football season. Again, these players are not chosen by any scientific method, or with an expert opinion beyond them. Basically I’m going on a hunch, which any analyst on TV does anyways.
1. Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots: Number 12 is coming off his knee injuries and is expected to be back in form in time for the start of next season. Hopefully there aren’t any more infections. But just in case…
1A. Matt Cassel, QB, New England Patriots: Cassel showed a lot of potential last season, but a lot of critics said it was the New England system that made him successful. Cassel’s $14.65 Million for 1 year contract is an awfully expensive insurance policy in case Brady isn’t ready in time.
2. Aaron Rogers, QB, Green Bay Packers: Gotta stick with the quarterbacks so far. He had a great year as a full-time starter. Aaron still has to shake the shadow of number 4 though, with Favre’s recent “retirement” announcement it should be easier this season for Rogers, but he is gonna need some help on defense.
3. Marion Barber, RB, Dallas Cowboys: He was injured most of the season. Let’s see what the Cowboys can do with a healthy backfield.
4. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals: I bet he is hoping and praying that Kurt Warner comes back to play next season. Without a doubt, Fitzgerald is the best receiver in the game today, and he proved in the playoffs this past season, but his success rests in Warner’s hands.
5. Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints: I started with the QBs, so I gotta finish with them. He was within a few yards of breaking Dan Marino’s record for passing yards in a season. He is legit, and on a great team. Let’s see what he can do next season. I expect a lot of Brees.
So, that’s all I got for today, enjoy the holiday weekend!
