The Organic Chemistry Laboratory is used for CH 203-204 Organic Chemistry I & II and CH 341 Synthetic Methods in Chemistry.
Students are assigned individual lockers containing microscale glassware kits. The lab contains balances, melting point apparatus, two refractometers, a polarimeter, vacuum distillation equipment, and ventilation hoods for the use of hazardous materials.
Experiments include classical organic reactions, syntheses, analyses, separation and identification of compounds. Students characterize their products using the UV, FT- infrared and mass spectrometers, and gas and HPLC chromatographs in the Instrumentation Laboratory. Software used includes ChemDraw and Chem3D for the display and manipulation of molecular models, and Syntree for the design of multistep syntheses.
