Graduation Information

University of New Haven students may graduate in January, May, or August of each year.  Ceremonies in which students may participate are held in January and May only.  August graduates are invited to participate in the following January's ceremony.

Matriculated students are required to submit a petition for graduation in the term immediately preceding their anticipated commencement.  Petitions should be reviewed and approved by the student's department chairperson (undergraduate) or program coordinator (graduate).  If you are expecting to graduate at the next scheduled commencement, you are reminded to file your graduation petition no later than the date listed below for your prospective commencement:

January Commencement - October 15
May Commencement - March 1
August - Awarding of Degrees - June 15

There is no fee required to file an initial petition for a degree.  If all degree requirements are not met prior to the published graduation date, it is the student's responsibility to file a new petition.  At that time, only the refiling fee of $50 will be assessed.

Students completing their degree requirements at the end of the fall or intersession terms will qualify to receive their diplomas with a January commencement date. Students completing their degree requirements at the end of the winter term (graduate) or spring term (undergraduate) will qualify to receive their diplomas with a May commencement date. Students completing their degree requirements at the end of the spring or summer terms (graduate) will qualify to receive their diplomas with an August commencement date.

Diplomas will be mailed to the students shortly afterward the scheduled commencement dates, depending on the timely submission of final grades by faculty members.
