Department of Mathematics – Chair of Mathematics #11-101

Chair of Mathematics: This is a tenure track appointment in Mathematics at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.  The successful candidate must be an experienced mathematics faculty member who is interested in departmental administration. UNH has a vibrant Mathematics Department with 5 concentrations in its undergraduate major program.  Since 2005, majors have grown in number from 6 to over 30, minors from 10 to over 60, and student credit hours taught now exceeds every other department in the College of Arts & Sciences.  Salary is open and rank will be commensurate with experience, teaching, and research record.  Teaching load is 15 credits/academic year and additional assigned time is available to support an appropriate research agenda.  Required are a Doctorate in Mathematics (discipline open), demonstrated teaching quality in undergraduate mathematics courses, an appropriate scholarly record, and sufficient experience in a tenured/tenure-track position to guarantee eligibility for tenure consideration in the third year.  Organizational and managerial skills are required, and successful service in a departmental administrative position is strongly preferred.  Applicants should send cover letter, current vitae, and at least three letters of reference to the address below.  At least one reference letter must address the candidate’s teaching ability and one should address the candidate’s potential to assume departmental administrative leadership.  The search will begin immediately and continue until a qualified candidate is selected.

Assistant Professor in Theater #11-95

The University of New Haven has an opening for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Theater beginning fall semester 2012. The successful candidate is expected to teach Introduction to Theater, Acting and other courses depending on his or her specialty area. In addition the candidate will be responsible for directing 2-3 productions per year, advise students, help to grow and develop the program, engage in outreach to the professional theatre community and participate in university service. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be expected to continue to build a portfolio of professional performances, creative activity or scholarly work.  

The minimum qualifications include an MFA, M.A.Ed  or Ph.D. in Theatre, Directing, Theater Education or a similar field,  a record of quality teaching experience;  experience directing plays, and excellent communication skills.

Tenure Track Assistant Professor of English #11-82

Tenure Track Assistant Professor - Education #11-69

The University of New Haven seeks applicants for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in special education. Area of expertise should focus on students with special needs and be consistent with the department’s focus on transformative teacher preparation.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate in special education or in a related field (ABD considered, pending anticipated graduation date). The department requires that candidates have a minimum of three years K-12 teaching experience and knowledge of theoretical underpinnings of pre-service teaching methods.  Candidates must demonstrate a successful record of or capacity for excellence in teaching at the college level. The ideal candidate will also have a record of, or potential for, research and publication in either technologies related to special education, or special education within the context of ethnicity, culture, socio-economic status, and gender.

Lecturer in Sociology #11-75

The University of New Haven has an opening for a non-tenure track Lecturer in Sociology beginning fall semester 2012. The successful candidate is expected to: teach sections of Contemporary Social Problems, Social Change, and the introductory course, as well as a subset of the following courses depending on his or her specialty areas: Sociology of Organizations, Social Inequality, Sociology of Aging, Primary Group Interaction, and Minority Group Relations; advise students; and be an active participant in department and college affairs. Public/Health Care Administration- Tenure Track Assistant Professor #11-85

The Department of Public Management at the University of New Haven invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Public Administration/Health Care Administration, to begin in Fall 2012.

Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Engineering – Interdisciplinary Faculty position #11-96

The Tagliatela College of Engineering at the University of New Haven invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with an anticipated starting date of September 2012. The successful candidate will play a significant role in our Multidisciplinary Engineering Foundation Spiral Curriculum (see web site for details: http://www.newhaven.edu/9454/ ) – a unique set of multidisciplinary courses taken by students in all engineering majors during their first 2 years.  In particular, we seek a candidate with the background and expertise to lead the continued development and assessment of our unique integrated curriculum model.

Qualifications include: a BS and/or MS in an engineering discipline or closely related area, and a PhD in an engineering discipline, engineering education, or a related field with a strong background in curriculum development, assessment techniques and engineering education research methods. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in at least one of these areas: mechatronics, energy, sustainability or wireless communication. Engineering Management / System Engineering #11-94

The Tagliatela College of Engineering at the University of New Haven is seeking applications for a fulltime renewable 3-year term non-tenure track faculty position at the assistant/associate professor or lecturer/senior lecturer level in engineering management and system engineering starting in the fall of 2012 or sooner if workable.  The position is renewable depending on need and performance. The expected academic home for the successful candidate is the Department of Mechanical, Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Industrial and System Engineering group.  A dual appointment is also possible.

The successful candidate will teach and conduct research.  Classroom teaching assignments will be at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in areas such as systems concepts and design, systems architecture, project management, applied operations research (both deterministic and stochastic), reliability engineering, modeling and simulation, production and operations management, cost and economic analysis, lean/six sigma, and quality assurance.  Additional duties include Master’s project supervision, advising and mentoring of students, support in student recruitment, active participation in program review, course and program development and assessment, and participation in department, college and university activities.  Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to teaching excellence are required.

The Department of Criminal Justice, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, University of New Haven is recruiting for multiple tenure-track faculty positions:

These tenure track positions all require a doctoral degree.  A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice is strongly preferred.  Another earned doctorate in a discipline other than criminal justice, that is otherwise consistent with the stated specialization, may also be considered.  Doctoral Candidates (“A.B.D.”) who are nearing the completion of their doctoral degree program may also be considered for the Assistant Professor rank. A record of scholarship or the clear potential to publish is expected. A J.D. degree alone is not sufficient for any of these positions.

In each specialty area, additional experience and expertise is desirable:

National Security 

Doctorates in related disciplines will be considered, preferably in International Relations, Anthropology, Policy Analysis, and Political Science.  Practitioner experience in one of the 16 agencies of the Intelligence Community (CIA, DIA, FBI, NSA, military intelligence, etc.), or practitioner experience related to national security or terrorism in a major international agency is strongly desired.  Holding or having previously held a Top Secret or higher security clearance is also desirable.

Forensic Computer Investigation 

Doctorates in related disciplines will be considered, preferably, Computer Engineering and Computer Science.  Hands-on experience with PC & Mac forensic software such as EnCase, FTK, PTK, BlackLite and other leading-edge applications is strongly desired.  Practitioner experience in a law enforcement forensic computer investigation unit or corporate equivalent is also desirable.

Corrections 

Experience in Corrections related research and practitioner experience are highly desired for this position.

Law Enforcement / Policing 

Experience as a police practitioner, particularly with managerial experience, including attaining officer/command rank, is strongly desired.  Past experience as a police trainer is also desirable (e.g. Certification as a Police Office Standards and Training instructor).

Investigative Services

Practitioner experience in law enforcement investigations at the local, state or federal level is strongly desired. Research in investigative techniques is desirable.

Part-Time Position Opening

Professional Tutor of Mathematics AND either Chemistry or Physics

Qualifications:  Master's degree in math, chemistry, engineering, or physics and university-level teaching experience in at least one of these subject areas.  Tutoring experience is preferred.  The applicant must be able to effectively tutor up through Calculus II and ideally through the 200-level in either physics or chemistry.  An ability to tutor in statistics and quantitative analysis, economics, or engineering, through the 200-level, is an acceptable alternative secondary subject.  The interview process includes a series of test questions in the subjects for which the candidate is applying to support.

Duties:  Tutor primarily undergraduate students in the areas of math and one other subject, typically on the 100- and 200-levels.  The applicant should be comfortable tutoring students individually and in small groups and recording data from those sessions.  Tutors may be asked to prepare and present workshops during their scheduled shifts, preview new software, and help create in-house resources for the CLR.  Tutors are expected to attend staff meetings, including a preterm meeting, utilize TutorTrac® reporting software, and address departmental goals during work periods they are not engaged in tutoring.

The position is renewable on a 15-week, contractual basis.  The starting salary is $22.50/hour.  The position requires an average commitment of 8-12 hours a week.  Available hours range from 9:30 AM to 10 PM weekdays and half days Friday through Sunday.  Applicants must be willing to work some night and/or weekend hours.
