...I was in my youth and I remain to this day what leadership experts refer to as a contrarian leader. And, frankly, I think this is exactly the kind of leadership style the University of New Haven needs at this point in its history, which is one reason why I am so thrilled to be the president of this wonderful institution: I think we are a perfect match for one another in many ways.

In my inauguration speech, I asked each of you to think boldly and assuredly about the future of the University. With this note, I want to report to you the exciting progress that has been made regarding Strategic Direction IV, Institutional Effectiveness, progress that clearly illustrates that the university community has responded to my challenge.
