A prominent human resources professional who has been a leader in his field nationally, William Bucknall served as senior vice president of United Technologies Corp. for 16 years before retiring in January 2008

    Expertise

    Mr. Bucknall was responsible for Human Resources and Organization at United Technologies, one of the world's largest manufacturers of building systems and aerospace products and one of the most renowned companies in the nation. Prior to that position, Mr. Bucknall was vice president, Human Resources at Carrier Corp., a division of United Technologies. He joined United Technologies in 1966, serving as vice president, Personnel and Industrial Relations for Otis North American Operations, and vice president, Personnel and Industrial Relations for the manufacturing division of Pratt & Whitney, another division of United Technologies.

    Community Service

    Mr. Bucknall now serves on the North American Executive Board of the MIT Sloan School of Management and is an honorary member of the board of directors of Special Olympics Connecticut. He was inducted into the National Academy of Human Resources in 1997. He has also served as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council at the MIT Sloan School of Management, was a board member of the Human Resources Policy Association and was a member of the advisory board for the Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies at Cornell University. Mr. Bucknall was chairman of the board of governors of the University of New Haven from 1998 to 2000. He received an honorary doctorate in Business Administration from the University in 2008.

    Education

    Mr. Bucknall earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of New Haven, and was a Sloan Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from which he earned his master's degree.

    Personal

    A tireless advocate of the arts and literature and an inveterate world traveler, Mr. Bucknall has two daughters and four grandchildren. He resides in Milford, Conn.
