Housing

Housing for UNH students in Prato is provided by both UNH and several different institutions located in the city center, all of which are no more than 15 minutes’ walk from the school and from each other.

Housing in Prato at all non-UNH owned properties are hotel-like residences owned and managed by local people, and often occupied by other guests not connected with the university. Therefore you are expected to follow the normal conduct regarding noise and behavior in any shared establishment.

Housing in Prato comes in many shapes and forms. For example, some bedrooms are more spacious than others, but none of them are as large as you might expect based on US standards. All our bedrooms contain between 2 or 4 beds, and some of the apartments we use house up to 6 people in two separate bedroom areas.

The size and style of furniture provided differs from room to room. Some residences have two bathrooms while some have just one. Kitchen facilities vary a lot, and some kitchens are very basic. Each establishment offers different kinds of laundry services. Some of the rooms are located on upper floors and not all residences have elevators.

This is all important to understand before you come to Prato, because you cannot choose your room, and you will need to be able to adapt to the housing that is assigned to you.

Meals are not provided by housing, though students may use the kitchen in each residence; please see the Meal Plan section for more information.

All housing is equipped with desks, air conditioning, wi-fi internet access, closets and bathrooms. They all are managed by housing staff who can be contacted at any time for maintenance issues or emergencies. The housing owned by UNH, Residence Piazza San Francesco, has a resident assistant. A washing service or washing machine is available at all housing.

Upon arrival in Prato, you will receive a special Housing orientation and a copy of our housing handbook and policies. While you are in Prato you are subject to the same policies of behavior and respect as in UNH housing in the US. Information on UNH housing policies can be consulted here. For more information on housing in Prato, please see our Housing FAQs.
