PHL361 Chinese Thought & Culture

This course is designed to introduce students to one of the oldest continuous civilizations. It intends to offer some in-depth understanding of Chinese thought and culture through personal experiences as well as reading classical texts. Students will be encouraged to appreciate the different aspects of Chinese thought within a contemporary cultural context, including its political and economic systems, art and science, traditional customs, behavior patterns, and the way of life. A central aim of the course is to relate these different aspects of Chinese culture to assist students in understanding Chinese ways of thinking, values, and contributions to the world civilization.
