The manner in which this service can be accomplished can be chosen from the following prioritized list:
- A true internship with a local company, paid or unpaid. Such a position may be found by the student either on his own, or with help from the Career Development office and/or leads from the Computer Science department.
- Full-time or part-time employment. Students working at an appropriate full-time or part-time position may use a portion of their work hours to fulfill the requirement.
- Voluntary service in the community in an appropriate capacity.
- University service, paid or unpaid. Students who already have a job or other activity which makes it impractical to fulfill the time commitment in an external setting, may fulfill the requirement through university service. This may take the form of work for the university's IT deparment, aid on a faculty research project or some other supervised position. This activity may not be applied to satisfying the requirements of any other course.
