Chemistry
Introduction
The Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Department offers both B.S. and B.A. degrees in Chemistry, as well as a Chemistry minor. Most Chemistry students currently opt for the B.S. degree, while the B.A. option has extra flexibility built in for students interested in pursuing options such as pre-medical/health, secondary education, or dual majors. Both the B.S. and B.A. programs include a thorough Chemistry curriculum that emphasizes hands-on experience with modern chemical instrumentation. UNH graduates with a Chemistry degree are well-suited to attend graduate school, or to seek employment at crime labs, government agencies, major pharmaceutical firms, chemical companies, and academic research labs. Chemistry is commonly chosen as a dual major by both Forensic Science students and Chemical Engineering students, but anyone interested in Chemistry as a dual major is welcome to sit down with a Chemistry advisor to discuss their options.
Unique Features
- The chemistry curriculum at UNH is a uniquely flexible program of study, allowing students to concentrate or minor in related specialties or other fields.
- A double major in chemistry and forensic science is a particularly popular option. With the proper choice of courses, you may receive both degrees by taking only twelve additional credits.
- The chemistry major contains six technical electives, which can be chosen in fields such as forensic science, engineering, computer science, biology, environmental science, and business.
- Our program emphasizes hands-on, real-life experience with modern chemical instrumentation.
