Structured job/internship search

 We have set up a process with the Co-sponsorship of Career Services so that over time, we have will have walked through the steps needed to land a job/internship. We are breaking the daunting task of finding a job or internship in to manageable bites, while covering as much ground as possible, in as short a time as possible, so that all of us will hopefully have a job/internship by next summer.

Courses Next Semester 

 We are offering three undergraduate courses:

  • International Finance (FI425)
  • Data Analysis (FI450)
  • Portfolio Management (FI330) 

We are offering three graduate classes this winter:

  • Fixed Income (FI620)
  • Data Analysis (FI670)
  • CFA review course (FI670CFA; this is brand new!)

Weekly Finance Club meeting 

Each week we discuss the upcoming activities of the club, solicit ideas for future activities, invite folks from industry and faculty to speak, work together to advance our job/internship sources and support each other in all that we do.

Kirk Knudsen (CFP) is giving a talk on the Certified Financial Planner designation on November 18 at 3:00.  

The talk will include how one earns it, and how it helps ones’ career.  He will also give tips on personal financial issues that come up when we are in college and especially those that arise when we have graduated and landed our first job.

Federal Reserve/Trading Floor/FBI NYC trip

 We are taking a group of 25 Finance, Accounting and Economics students to the New York Fed for a tour and a lecture on Monetary Policy as well as to visit the a Financial Services Firm Trading Floor. We will also hear a talk by the FBI on recent developments in their activities on Financial Fraud and on Financial Careers with  the FBI at their offices.

3-day Global Asset Management Education Forum in New York City

Panels will discuss the economy, the stock market, corporate governance and alternative investments to name but a few topics. There will be breakout sessions covering the gamut of the field of finance, as well as opportunities to rub shoulders with real players from industry, the government and academia. One day of the conference will be devoted to career opportunities in the field.
