The University of New Haven Study Abroad programs are defined as quality academic opportunities that allow our students to develop knowledge, skills, abilities and intercultural understanding necessary for meaningful interaction with people from various cultures, leading to productive, successful contributions to the global community.
Study Abroad is broadly understood to include opportunities which include a wide range of initiatives internationally and nationally. Students satisfy the Experiential Education – International and Study Away programs through faculty-led local, national, and international experience programs, Freshman Abroad program; faculty identified international tracks, international internships, international service-learning, international short term or summer programs.
The UNH programs move away from study abroad as an "academic tourism" experience, and promote faculty involvement to create study abroad and field study experiences meaningful to our academic curriculum. International and Study Away programs will include structured learning off campus in areas related to student's academic goals. The academic component of a field study proposal is as important as experience itself.
