Director's Message
By some estimates, sports have grown into a $193 billion industry. The University of New Haven's location between Boston and New York places it in a corridor rich with sports-related businesses that are in need of well-educated sports managers, as well as the kinds of services and knowledge UNH's Institute for Sports Management can provide. The Institute for Sports Management links UNH to the sports business community through the placement of interns, and the skill enhancement of sports management graduates who enter the work force. Professional seminars and workshops are targeted to the needs of practitioners in the sports business community and those who often find themselves working with them. Small-group consulting experiences on behalf of sponsors, and research geared to the information needs of corporate stakeholders also benefit the broader community. The Institute of Sports Management takes education beyond the classroom to where theory and practice meet head on, in an arena that extends throughout the world.
