Calling All Engineers!
A week-long engineering and science non-residential camp is offered each year by the Tagliatela College of Engineering. Participants in the program discover the excitement of working on engineering and science projects in a university environment. Due to ESUMS’s partnership with UNH, students who attend ESUMS may qualify for full or half scholarships to the camp.
At the camp UNH faculty and staff lead a variety of activities that focus on:
- 2D Video Game Design – A fun introduction to computer programming principles that are aimed at beginners. Participants create a 2D video game that includes animation, sound, music, and graphics. Free software will be used that will allow the student to continue to create and design even after the camp!
- Aerodynamics – Investigate the shapes of wings and airfoils and how different designs affect the way they fly. Participants design, build and test their own airplane models to see which fly farther, faster and for the longest time.
- Chemistry of Energy – Discover the chemistry behind batteries, solar panels, fuel cells and more! Participants will learn the principles of these power sources, make their own batteries and solar cells and test them, both in the lab and on a model car.
Through these hands-on activities participants will learn about careers in engineering and science.
UNH faculty and staff supervise all classroom and project work. The faculty have outstanding backgrounds in many different areas of engineering, technology, and science, combined with a genuine interest in working with young people who show an aptitude from science, math, engineering, and technology.
