Introduction
Earning a bachelor of arts degree in history provides a framework for a liberal education and prepares students for a variety of careers. The study of history offers insight into related disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. It broadens the perspective of students by revealing the complex and interrelated nature of human experience. The goal of the History Department is to integrate global perspectives into its program in order to meet rapidly changing international conditions and further the understanding of different cultures and their backgrounds. The mission of the Department is to provide an academic foundation that allows students to continue to learn throughout their lives as they meet changing opportunities and circumstances.
While all UNH students must complete a core curriculum requirement in history, the pursuit of a degree in history opens the door to a multitude of possibilities, from successful careers to continued graduate study. The history program continuously reviews the changing nature of the world, including new technologies in industry and education, international opportunities for careers and study, and the relationship between study in the classroom and application in the workplace or graduate school.
