Education

Dr. Smith holds three degree in English literature: the bachelor’s degree from Guilford College, the master’s from Columbia University, and the doctorate from New York University. 

Published Books and Articles

He has published articles on three Williams: Blake, Shakespeare, and Godwin. He has done extensive research on British 18th-century moral and religious verse for children.

Other 

Dr. Smith hosts the annual Shakespeare Competition for the Greater New Haven Branch of the English Speaking Union. He is also very much involved in faculty governance, having long served as the Secretary of the Faculty, chaired the revision of the core curriculum, and helped develop the university’s Common Read program.
