Dr. Ali Jafarian joined UNH in fall of 1990. Before coming to UNH (1988-90), he was a visiting professor at University of Victoria, BC, Canada. Prior to that he taught for 15 years at Sharif University of Technology, a highly selective university in Tehran, Iran. He enjoys teaching and working with students. His field of specialization is Operator Theory, Functional Analysis, and Linear Algebra, with special interest in determining structure of certain linear preservers on spaces of operators or matrices. He is also interested in the Theory of Wavelets and its applications, especially in Medical Imaging. He has written about 20 papers in refereed journals, some of them in collaboration with other mathematicians from US, Canada, Europe and Iran. He has given talks at several national and international conferences. Although he is a pure mathematician, he is one of the pioneers in the department in promoting the use of technology in teaching. He has attended several workshops on reforms in teaching mathematics with the aid of technology, and uses Maple and MATLAB software in his teaching, whenever appropriate. Dr. Jafarian has a passion for music, art, Persian poetry and literature, and enjoys gardening and cooking. |
