SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- University of New Haven sophomore Breanne Gleason was named Daktronics Second Team All-Northeast Region, in voting by the region's Sports Information Directors.
Gleason (Bristol, Conn.) grabs a spot on the All-Northeast Region Second Team as the Utility player, as she both pitched and played right field for the Chargers in 2008.
During the regular season, Gleason was named ECC Baden Pitcher of the Week once on her way to a team-high 11 wins. She also led the team in ERA at 2.18 and struck out a team-high 150 batters. Gleason now has 377 strikeouts for her career, putting her in fifth-place all-time at UNH.
Gleason also led the Chargers at the plate this season, driving in a team-best 28 runs along with a team-high six home runs. She led the team with seven multi-RBI games, and hit .315 for the season. Gleason had ten multi-hit games along with a team-high four three-hit games.
Gleason was a Second Team All-East Coast Conference selection at utility this season. She was an NFCA All-Northeast Region selection as a freshman following the 2007 campaign.
Dowling College's Taras Wallace was the Daktronics Northeast Region Player of the Year, while Georgian Court's Samantha Sasko was the Pitcher of the Year.
C.W. Post, the No. 1 team in the region and host of this week's NCAA regional, placed four players on the first and second team while Adelphi and Caldwell College, both participants in the NCAA tournament, each placed three players on the all-region team.
