CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. -- On Monday, University of New Haven softball player Courtney Garland (photo) was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. The award covered games played from April 21-27.
In a 3-1 week for the Chargers, Garland hit .308 with a double and two runs batted in. She also scored two runs during the week. Garland, a native of East Meadow, N.Y., started every game at second and had a 1.000 fielding percentage with six put-outs and four assists.
UNH will enter into the ECC Tournament this Wednesday, April 30 as they will host a first round game versus Dowling College. The game will start at 3:30 p.m. with both teams advancing win or lose on to the double-elimination tournament that continues on Thursday.
