FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will my child be safe?
The University of New Haven has its own Campus Police Department. The Officers provide full-service police protection 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please visit the Campus Safety website for more specific information.
   
What if my child needs academic help/counseling?
The Office of Academic Services provides Academic Skills Counselors who work with students individually or in small groups to strengthen abilities or make referrals to other qualified personnel on campus. The Center for Learning Resources provides free tutoring and writing skills assistance to help students improve their grades.
   
What does UNH offer in terms of career planning services?
The Career Services Office provides employment-related services including career counseling, advising, and information about job opportunities. They can also provide help in the areas of resume writing skills, interviewing skills and creating cover and thank you letters.
   
Are there medical services on campus if my child gets sick or has chronic health needs?
Staffed by registered nurses and part-time physicians, the Health Services Office is the primary provider of on-campus medical care in cases of student illness or injury. For office hours or more information please visit the Health Services website.
   
Can my son or daughter bring a car to campus?
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are permitted to bring their cars to campus and must register their cars with Campus Police. Information on parking regulations and fees can be found by clicking here.
   
How can I get information on my student's grades? Can I access my student's academic record?
Grades are sent to the student at the end of each semester. Federal privacy legislation prohibits the University from sharing student information with anyone without the student’s permission. Additional information on student records can be found by clicking here.
   
Where can my student purchase textbooks?
The Campus Bookstore is available for students to purchase textbooks, UNH apparel, and other supplies. For hours, online shopping, or more information please visit their website.
   
How does my student choose what classes to take?
Students meet with their academic advisor each semester prior to pre-registration to determine an appropriate schedule for the following semester. Click here for further information on academic schedules and registration.
   
My student seems depressed. What types of resources does UNH provide to help?
Should you have a concern, please refer your student to the Counseling Center where they can speak with a clinical psychologist.
   
My student lives off campus. Can an on-campus meal plan be purchased?
Yes, students who live off campus can purchase any meal plan they wish. For more information on meal plan options please follow this link.
   
 
Where can I find more information on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)?

When is graduation? Where can I find out more information about preparing for graduation/commencement?

Where do students go to access health care when the Student Health Center is closed?

What if my student does not get along with a roommate?
The Office of Residential Life (ORL) believes that your residential experience should compliment your out of classroom experience. For questions or more information, feel free to contact ORL.
   
When does my student need to be moved out of University housing?
The Undergraduate Academic Calendar specifies move-in and move-out dates of the residence halls as well as many other important dates.
   
Is public transportation available? Does UNH offer any other transportation/shuttles?
The University provides students with a courtesy van and a shuttle to and from campus, downtown New Haven, and different residence halls. Please follow this link to view shuttle schedules or for more transportation information.
