What is Outlook Live?
To All Undergraduate & Graduate Students:
The Office of Information Technology is proud to announce an exciting new update to your UNH e-mail. The University of New Haven has partnered with Microsoft to offer you Outlook Live, an e-mail program that offers more mailbox storage, remote storage for files, and many more features. Microsoft will continue to enhance this offering with input from all participating Universities.
We will have created a new mailbox for every student. Your account name will be the same, i.e. jsmit1, but your e-mail address will now be jsmit1@unh.newhaven.edu. The unh prefix to your email account is new. This change only affect students, NOT FACULTY and STAFF. All university faculty and staff e-mail addresses will remain as is. Your password for the new e-mail system will be a newly generated password.
To preview the new email system and its features, please go to http://www.newhaven.edu/outlooklive. We encourage you to begin using your new email as soon as you receive the next e-mail from us announcing its availability.
all University systems i.e. Blackboard, Epay, will be updated to communicate with your NEW e-mail address. Your current university mailbox will remain open until February 15, 2010. At this time, all University correspondence will only be sent to your new e-mail address. Mail sent to your old (@newhaven.edu) will begin to automatically forward to your new Outlook Live address (@unh.newhaven.edu) on February 15, 2010 as well. In order to save the mail in your old (@newhaven.edu) mailbox, you will need to follow the Migration Steps below before this date.
Included on this page are instructions to configure your new Outlook Live mailbox to pull all mail from your UNH mailbox so that you can move all your current mail to your new mailbox.
If you should have any questions or issues with your new e-mail, please contact this dedicated e-mail address at outlooklivesupport@newhaven.edu or call 203-932-8324.
Thanks,

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Will my old (@newhaven.edu) address still work after February 15, 2010?
Yes. While you will not have access to any e-mail received prior to February 15, 2010 (unless you migrate your mail following the steps below) any e-mail sent to username@newhaven.edu will automatically forward to your new username@unh.newhaven.edu account. No action is required on your part to activate this forwarding. This forward will remain active indefinitely.
Have the settings for POP/IMAP/SMTP changed with the move to Outlook Live? How do I setup my Blackberry/iPhone/Mobile Device for Outlook Live?
An Email Setup Help Wizard can be found online at http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/dd936216.aspx. This link will assist you in configuring your mobile device or desktop email program (Mac or PC). If you would like to jump right to the settings for POP/IMAP access, the information on http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/cc875899.aspx will help you.
Note for iPhone Users: You should add your Outlook Live account as an Exchange ActiveSync account using the steps here; however, leave the field "Domain" blank and for "Server Name" use "pod51004.outlook.com". Your username is your Full email address (Ex: username@unh.newhaven.edu).
I get an error message stating that I am currently signed on or I need to sign out of my existing account!
You may be signed in to your personal Hotmail account. Make sure you sign out of Hotmail completely, and then go to http://www.outlook.com again.
How can I change my password? / I forgot my password!
You can change your password for Outlook Live (and all other UNH network systems, including Blackboard and Matrix) by going to the UNH Password Reset tool at http://www.newhaven.edu/24028/ and following the steps.
Why is the University partnering with Microsoft?
Outlook Live gives students a 10 GB mailbox (versus the 30 MB current offering). In addition, through Windows Live services, students have 25 GB of secure online storage (via SkyDrive), integration with the University's Global Address List, calendaring, and many other services (Photos, Instant Messaging, Profiles, etc.).
What is my e-mail address?
Your e-mail address will be username@unh.newhaven.edu, where username is the same as your existing UNH username.
How do I access my UNH Outlook Live e-mail?
Go to http://www.outlook.com and sign-on with username@unh.newhaven.edu and your new Outlook Live password, which will be e-mailed to existing students. Then, follow the steps to migrate old e-mail if needed.
What is my Windows Live ID?
Your Windows Live ID is the same as your new e-mail address — username@unh.newhaven.edu.
What is my Windows Live ID password?
Your Windows Live ID password will initially be e-mailed to you. Once established, your Live ID password is also your UNH network password. If you reset your UNH network password while on campus, the password for your Windows Live ID account will also be changed. If you change the password for Windows Live ID while signed on to Outlook Live, the password change only affects Outlook Live.
What will my mailbox quota / storage limit be?
Students receive a much larger mailbox quota (10 GB) and can send up to 20 MB attachments. SkyDrive includes 25 GB of secure online storage.
Will my e-mail account still work when I graduate or leave the University?
Your e-mail account will continue to work after you graduate, as long as you use it. Microsoft will terminate any mailbox inactive for a year. Once you are no longer a student, your account will display advertisements beside your messages.
