West Haven, Conn, December 1, 2009–The University of New Haven’s (UNH) Criminal Justice Club won the 2009 American Criminal Justice Association (ACJA) Region 4 Conference competition in Philadelphia November 12 through November 14. Club members distinguished themselves by winning 25 trophies and medals, including the prestigious Spirit Award, the Sweepstakes Award and the Academic Award. The UNH chapter, consisting of 16 students and two faculty members, also brought home awards for their accomplishments in competitions including firearms, juvenile justice and corrections. All students plan to attend the national conference which will be held in Portland, Ore. in March, 2010.
ACJA is a national professional and pre-professional organization with goals that include improved technology, training, and service for the benefit of the criminal justice system. The club offers students a variety of activities including community service and the opportunity to meet and work with practitioners in the field. Students meet others with similar interests and are eligible to participate in regional and national programs and activities.
