Ozkul has Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Management Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey. He was awarded a Ph.D. in 2003 from Clemson University, in Management with a focus on Operations Management. Ozkul teaches courses including Management Information Systems and Operations Management.
Ozkul has been teaching at university level since 1991, in the areas of database management, computers in business, decision support systems, management information systems, and operations management. His teaching appointments included Sakarya University (Turkey), Clemson University, Wichita State University and SUNY Oneonta. He enjoys using educational technology in his teaching, especially Microsoft Excel as an interactive teaching and learning environment, in line with the University’s experiential learning emphasis. Using Excel, he provides class notes, draw illustrations, plot charts, explain computer programming, demonstrate data processing and mining, and simulate a factory. Ozkul developed a production planning simulation game using Excel and successfully used it in the classroom. His other teaching tools include team projects in which students work on business problems from actual life.
Ozkul's research interests are mostly interdisciplinary, including supply chain management, Interdisciplinary operations, information systems and marketing, social networks, and social media. He has also conducted pedagogical research on the educational use of technology.
