Forensic Science Competition

Forensic Science Competition

Article Body

The Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences in partnership with the Ct. Consortium for Law & Citizenship Education, Inc. co-sponsored the second annual Forensics Crime Scene Investigation Competition on May 28, 2009 at UNH. The contest provided a hands-on interdisciplinary educational opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their knowledge of forensic science. Teams of students from six Connecticut High Schools were asked to demonstrate their knowledge and skills with regard to forensics, criminal investigation and the law by conducting a realistic and comprehensive criminal investigation of a crime. Provided with a fictional police dispatch report, students were asked to conduct an investigation using a simulated crime scene containing real physical evidence, a forensic laboratory to evaluate and examine the evidence, and the opportunity to conduct interrogations on live "suspects."  Teams were judged on the totality of their investigational skills as well as their ability to present their conclusions in a scientific and logical manner to a panel of forensic science experts.   Judges included both University of New Haven Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences professors and additional experienced law enforcement volunteers.

Congratulations to this year's winners - Ridgefield High School!
