Research Interests

Dr. Koehler’s research interest is considered systemic reform in science education. This revolves around the notion of alternative methodologies for instructing science in K12 classrooms. Currently, she investigates how the nature of science (NOS) and scientific inquiry (SI) is portrayed in films for science classrooms. She also works in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education as a means to help students understand how science is conducted. Much of her work is in urban settings and the context of her investigations are situated in magnet schools.
