Professional Experience

Mrs. Maiorino began her involvement in the education department at the University of New Haven as an adjunct in the spring of 1999 and joined the department as a Practitioner in Residence in the fall of 2004. Her primary responsibility in the department is to prepare all candidates for secondary language arts certification. She teaches several other courses as well as supervises interns and student teachers. In addition, Mrs. Maiorino serves on a variety of department committees and has initiated a school to community project with Notre Dame High School.

Mrs. Maiorino served public education as a secondary English teacher and reading specialist in the North Branford school system for thirty-four years. For the last twenty years of her public school career she served as English department chairperson and Language Arts Coordinator responsible for sixteen teachers in grades 6-12. Her primary responsibilities in this role included evaluating and supervising teachers, developing and monitoring curriculum, and planning and implementing staff development. Mrs. Maiorino has chaired numerous committees, most notably the steering committee for the 2000 NEASC accreditation visit for North Branford High School.
