Ohio Academic Named Provost and VP at UNH

Daniel J. May, vice president for academic affairs at the University of Findlay in Ohio, has been named provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Haven. May, who will join UNH this summer, was the unanimous choice of the search committee.

According to engineering professor Jean Nocito-Gobel, there’s a growing demand for engineers and more of a focus in academia on science, technology, engineering and math education.

LiveScience, August 24, 2012: UNH assistant professor Luiz Vieira is part of a research team studying cold-formed steel, a component of earthquake-resistant architecture. Although industry standards and codes for cold-formed steel were first written in 1946, there is still much to be learned about the entire system of a cold-formed steel building as it responds to an earthquake.

WTNH, August 15, 2012: UNH student Jordy Padilla is one of 2 million people in the U.S. who will apply for the federal government's "deferred action" amnesty which allows illegal immigrants who meet certain guidelines to be guaranteed not to be deported for two years. Padilla came to the U.S. from Ecuador at age 7 and is studying to be a civil engineer.
