Getting Started

Study Abroad Policies

All students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisors to determine the best international and away program for their major area of study.

  1. Students must be in good standing academically and have no disciplinary or financial holds.
  2. The program and program provider must be approved by the study abroad office.
  3. Students must submit to the SA office a two page paper on learning objectives and attend a pre-departure program.
  4. Students who are living on-campus must visit the Office of Residential Life, located on the first floor of Bixler Hall (203.932.7077), to discuss living arrangements for their return.
  5. Students who are receiving Financial Aid must visit the Financial Aid office to discuss any changes in their Institutional or Federal Financial Aid.
  6. While away students should stay current with UNH emails and remember to pre-register for the next semester – this can be done on-line.
  7. Students who plan to graduate at the end of the study abroad semester should be sure to meet with their advisor to ensure the courses taken abroad will meet program requirements.
  8. Remember that occasionally the courses you expected to take abroad are not available when you arrive.  Please plan accordingly by having a list of second choices pre-approved by your advisor.
  9. Grades earned while abroad will be translated to the US Grading scale and applied to the UNH student transcript.
  10. Upon return to UNH students are required to attend a re-entry program, submit a two page reflection paper and a photo to the study abroad office.
  11. Students must submit all forms and attend the re-entry meeting before their coursework will be transferred back to UNH.
