Roehampton Diary: Traveling in and out of London
By: Victoria Bui
I thought being able to study abroad my first semester of freshman year would be the highlight of my life, but actually getting here and having a great experience became the real highlight. One of the best things about studying abroad is being in London with the ability to travel to other great cities and countries.
I am from Stratford, Connecticut, majoring in Criminal Justice, and I am one of 12 students who are the first to participate in the UNH Freshman Study Abroad program in London. London is a great place! There are so many beautiful buildings, great shopping and wonderful nightlife. It’s a really amazing place for educational purposes.
London is also a great hub to travel from; you can travel at really good prices to so many places. I have already visited Canterbury, Kent, Dublin, and Wicklow. I saw the beautiful Canterbury Cathedral and had lunch downtown. While in Kent I toured Leeds Castle. When I went to Dublin I stayed in a hostel for the first time and visited the Guinness Storehouse. In Wicklow I visited the Powerscourt Gardens which is a gorgeous estate.
In the near future, I plan to visit France (Paris in particular) and Germany. There are a number of travel agencies that have great promotions designed specifically for international students who want to travel to other countries. They take students to tourist spots and allow leisure time. The package deals usually include admission and accommodations if traveling includes an overnight stay.
Being in London is wonderful, but being able to travel outside of London makes it even better.
