IKEA RECEIVES TRAINING FROM UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN
Article Body
WEST HAVEN, CT -- October 17, 2007 -- The University of New Haven's University College kicked off two corporate training programs at IKEA this month. IKEA has a robust policy of putting people first and developing talent. One area that attracted their attention was communications, including written and oral communication and computer skills. This Fall IKEA and the University of New Haven partnered to begin a new program for 10 of their lead "coworkers" (staff) and a second program for 10 of their managers.
Professor David Sloane and adjunct instructor Doug MacGilpin are teaching a series of 15 related seminars covering a wide variety of skills including planning and editing written work as well as including Excel and Powerpoint in major communications. Professor Sloane says, "We are very pleased that we can assist IKEA in their training efforts. Working with area businesses to develop tailor-made programs and bring them in-house to varied users has been a major UNH goal for years. Working with IKEA's international resources and vision is very exciting." He noted that almost every area business could derive significant time and cost savings by improving internal communication with programs like this.
The training continues for fifteen weeks and each cohort meets once a week for two hours. IKEA's Human Resource Manager Jackie DeChamps says "the participants are very pleased; we are seeing positive results after only a few weeks. We definitely plan on running this program again in 2008."
