Databases and Software

The SSB LCFT has many of the latest financial technology databases and software. The major ones are described below. Click here for a general overview of programs .

1) Research Insight - Both Compustat North American and Compustat Global. This database contains company financial data and other company and market data. It provides established reports and charts and allows for custom-made reports. Compustat North America is for companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges. Compustat Global is for foreign companies. 2) CRSP Stock and Mutual Funds Data - Contains stock prices, volumes, and other data for U.S. exchange-listed companies. It covers the period from 1926 to present. We have a site license. Click here for instructions.

3) I-Metrix (Edgar Pro) - Contains stocks and mutual funds data, based on company filings with the SEC. I-Metrix extracts the data. The filings can also be downloaded in their entirety as PDF or Word files. Click here for brief instructions on how to use Edgar-Pro online.

4) Value Line Investment Survey Online - Contains Value Line reports, ratings, and data on stocks and mutual funds. It is web based. Click here for more information.

5) Morningstar Direct - Morningstar data on stocks, mutual funds, currencies, hedge funds, etc. It has a complete record of mutual funds.

6) EnCorr Analyzer -Morningstar stock, bond, interest rate, and inflation indices for U.S. and other countries. Encorr Analyzer has portfolio optimization and asset allocation analysis capabilities.

7) King of Pension Funds - Database of pension funds provided by Judy Diamond Associates.

8) SBRnet - Marketing data on sporting goods and sports-related businesses. We have a site license.

9) Reuters 3000 Xtra - Financial data feed and analysis tool, including up-to-date pricing, news and other information in all markets. Click here for brief guides.

10) Thomson One Analytics - Equity and fixed income data feed and analysis tool. Click here for further information.

Analysis Software

1) SAS - Statistical software to perform descriptive statistics, regression analysis, time series analysis, and so on. SAS is primarily command driven. We have a site license.

2) SPSS - Statistical software to perform descriptive statistics, regression analysis, time series analysis, and so on. SPSS is both menu and command driven. We have a site license.

3) EViews - Statistical software to perform descriptive statistics, regression analysis, time series analysis, and so on. Combinations of menu and command operations are used to run analyses.

4) Crystal Ball - Excel add-on simulation software to perform Monte Carlo simulation and optimization analysis.

5) HOTS - Simulation software with applications in hotel operations management.

6) LINGO - Excel-based analysis tool for optimization problems.

7) Great Plains - Microsoft Business Solutions.

8) Peachtree Accounting - Software for complete accounting processes and reporting from transaction entry to preparation of financial statements.

9) Quickbooks - Accounting software.

10) BARRA - Data feed with analysis capabilities such as optimization and portfolio risk analysis.

11) Financial Trading Systems - Simulation software tool to practice bond and stock trading in class or during the semester.
