Program Educational Objectives And Student Outcomes

Mission

The mission of the System Engineering program is to prepare our students for growth and career opportunities in the field and/or advanced studies. The mission also includes recruiting a diverse student body; providing state-of-the-art education; and interacting with employers to ensure that graduates are prepared to contribute to their chosen professions in various sectors of the economy.

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) are as follows:

  1. Graduates excel at working on system engineering-related projects
  2. Graduates lead multidisciplinary teams to achieve organizational or project goals by communicating effectively and respecting the diversity of people and disciplines
  3. Graduates attain professional and technical competence to pursue professional careers in any sector
  4. Graduates pursue advanced and graduate studies and engage in career-long education
  5. Graduates contribute to the profession and the society at large through professional societies, community service, and civic activities, demonstrating the value of effective and responsible citizenship

The Student Outcomes (SOs) are as follows:

  1. an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  2. an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  3. an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  4. an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
  5. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  6. an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
  7. an ability to communicate effectively
  8. the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  9. a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
  10. a knowledge of contemporary issues
  11. an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
